Lasting Tribute
Overview:
Since it was launched in May 2007, Lasting Tribute has established itself as the market leader in the UKmemorial website sector with almost 40 per cent market share.
The site includes more than one million searchable tribute pages. Many of which are imported from our sister regional newspapers owned by Northcliffe Media Limited.
Currently, each month, some 800 messages and 600 images are left by around 170,000 unique users who between them look at almost 2 million pages.
As well as a national site, 30 whitelabel versions* have been created to act as the bereavement and ‘in memoriam’ platforms for the thisis…. websites run by our sister regional newspapers across the UK. The home pages of these local versions of the website focus on tributes and obituaries from their local area.
When the 100th British soldier was killed in Afghanistan, the AND team developed a Heroes of Afghanistan application which sits on the thisis… websites and some non-Northcliffe websites too.
Lasting Tribute works in partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care and When You Wish Upon A Star so that visitors can remember loved ones and donate to charity through an online Field of Hope and a virtual night sky.
Lasting Tributelaunched an appeal to raise £2,500 to dedicate an acre of woodland in memory of Martin Beard, a Derbyshire soldier killed in Iraq. The money was raised in just a few months and a dedication ceremony took place on the day he was due to have married his fiancée Nicola Parkin.
Users who register with the site can add virtual flowers, candles and other ‘gifts’ to any tribute on the site.
They can also keep in touch with news about Lasting Tribute through its Blog – and its Facebook page.
In July 2008, Lasting Tribute was nominated for Product Development of the Year and Outstanding Achievement of the Year in the Data Publishers Association 2008 awards to be announced at the end of October.
